Orange County to Buy 160 Natural-Gas Buses

Share

More than 160 new, reduced-pollution buses will begin rolling along Orange County streets next year as part of a $526-million transportation budget approved Monday.

In a unanimous vote, directors of the Orange County Transportation Authority approved a budget that provides for the single largest purchase of new buses in agency history, 34 new drivers and expanded service hours. The expansion of bus services comes at a time of growing bus ridership.

The budget, which takes effect July 1, also provides for the long-awaited completion of the Santa Ana Freeway widening project. About 44 miles of freeway running through Orange, Fullerton, Anaheim and Buena Park will be widened from six to 10 lanes.
