Sale of Fire-Safe Cigarettes

ALBANY, N.Y. —
Lawmakers approved a bill Wednesday that would make New York the first state to require the sale of self-extinguishing cigarettes. The measure, which would take effect by July 2003, is designed to cut down on fires caused by careless smokers.
