GoAmerica to Buy Wynd for $38 Million

Share

Internet service provider GoAmerica Inc. agreed last week to purchase Wynd Communications of San Luis Obispo in a stock deal worth about $38 million. Wynd is a leading provider of wireless telecommunications services for the hearing-impaired. In 1999 it posted sales of $2.1 million and a loss of $1.8 million. The company has more than 4,500 subscribers to its service, which is used with two-way messaging devices made by Research in Motion.

The deal with GoAmerica will make Wynd’s service available to hand-held computer devices. In addition, GoAmerica plans to incorporate Wynd’s wireless instant messaging technology into its Go.Web site, the companies said.
