SageTree Gets Boost from NCR

Western Digital Corp. said today that its SageTree subsidiary has received a $10-million equity investment from NCR Corp., a Dayton, Ohio, business data technology firm.

SageTree develops software to gather and store data about products while they are manufactured.

The division was created to help Western Digital monitor its computer hard drives and other data storage products as they were manufactured. But the technology can be applied in a wide range of manufacturing industries, said SageTree chief operating officer Gerald Hill.

SageTree’s 31 employees now work at Western Digital’s Irvine headquarters, but the firm will move into its own quarters in the Irvine Spectrum in early July. Hill said he expects the firm to grow to 70 employees by the end of the summer. (Karen Alexander)
