Xircom to Develop Wireless Products With Ericsson

Share

Xircom Inc. in Thousand Oaks has signed an agreement with Ericsson Mobile Communications AB to cooperate in the development, testing, manufacturing and marketing of Bluetooth wireless products. Under the agreement, Xircom will become the primary provider of mobile data access products for Ericsson and will collaborate in integrating Bluetooth technology into products that target notebook and hand-held PC devices.

Bluetooth allows individuals to use their personal data products to synchronize, exchange and update information, and connect to the Internet without wires or cables. When products with Bluetooth are within 10 meters of each other, they can transfer schedule and address book information between the user’s accessory device and notebook PC, or automatically dial through a mobile phone to access the Internet.

“This is a great opportunity to leverage our current leadership position in the wired mobile data access market and to realize our vision of establishing Xircom as an international leader in the emerging wireless arena,” said Dirk Gates, the company’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “The technology exchange resulting from this agreement will position both Xircom and Ericsson at the forefront of the global wireless market and provide customers with wireless mobile communications products that easily and automatically exchange voice and data.”
