A Los Alamitos woman received the Congressional Award Gold Medal this month, which honors young people ages 14 to 23 for achievement and public service. While pursuing a career in teaching at Cal State Long Beach, Rebecca Roberts completed 400 hours of community service, 200 hours of personal development activities, and 200 hours of physical fitness programs.

“[Roberts] has proven her dedication to public service through various community service projects with which she has been involved,” said U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton). “And yet she has also found time to work on her personal development through leadership seminars, crowd management and assertiveness training courses.”
