Firefighter Hurt Battling Blaze at Laguna Hills Home

A home in the exclusive Nellie Gail Ranch community of Laguna Hills sustained extensive damage Tuesday when a fire roared through its attic and roof, officials said.

Though the residents were able to evacuate without injury, one firefighter was hospitalized for observation after reporting difficulty breathing, said Paul Hunter, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.

“It’s a huge building,” Hunter said of the two-story, 7,500-square-foot house on Highplains Terrace, where many homes are worth more than $1 million.

Hunter said he could not estimate the value of the damage done by the fire, which 70 firefighters put out in about 90 minutes.

“The entire roof and attic area were destroyed,” he said, “and there was some second-floor damage, as well as water damage throughout the house.”

The cause of the 6:30 p.m. blaze is under investigation, Hunter said.
