Short interest on the New York Stock Exchange rose 76.9 million shares in the month ended June 15, to 4.3 billion shares the NYSE said. Short interest measures the number of shares borrowed, and sold, usually by traders anticipating a decline in stock prices. The latest rise in short interest suggests more traders were betting the market’s spring swoon would continue.
