The City Council conducted last week’s regular meeting in memory of former Mayor and City Councilman Jack Hileman, who died June 10.

Hileman, 90, was an Orange city councilman for 12 years, four of which he served as mayor from 1964 to 1968. The father of three sons and two stepdaughters was also a planning commissioner from 1957 to 1960.

Several of Hileman’s civic accomplishments included playing a part in reducing the city’s tax rate and establishing six city parks, four fire stations, a civic center, a branch library and four major shopping centers.
