The North Tustin Advisory Committee unanimously voted 5 to 0 Wednesday night against rezoning the 6.3-acre parcel of land on Newport Avenue and 17th Street from residential to commercial.
Some residents don’t want to see the vacant lot turned into a strip mall and are fighting to stop the development of the proposed North Tustin Village Project. Others welcome an upscale grocery store, restaurant and specialty shops in the unincorporated community.
The advisory committee will report its recommendation to the Orange County Planning Commission, which should vote on the zone change in July.
