Britain to Beef Up Security for Parades

About 2,000 extra British troops will be sent to Northern Ireland to boost security during the volatile summer season of Protestant parades, the military said. Five new battalions will be in place before Sunday, when the Protestant Orange Order makes its annual march in Portadown, 30 miles southwest of Belfast, the provincial capital. The group has been ordered not to march through a Roman Catholic neighborhood. Past marches through the area have provoked violent confrontations.
