In what might have been a Big Sky Conference tournament preview, Cal State Northridge turned in one of its best performances and defeated Weber State, 76-62, before 1,401 Wednesday night at Northridge.

The Matadors (17-9, 9-6 in conference) never trailed in moving into a fourth-place tie with Weber State (17-9, 9-6) with a game to play.

As the Big Sky’s fourth- and fifth-place teams, Northridge and Weber State would meet in a first-round game next week at the conference tournament.

The Matadors had four players score in double figures, led by Jeff Parris, who had 17.

Northridge held Weber State forward Harold Arceneaux reasonably in check. Arceneaux, arguably the Big Sky’s best player, scored 27 points on 10-of-24 shooting.

“It pretty much was a team effort on Arceneaux,” Northridge Coach Bobby Braswell said. “He got away from us a few times, but we defended him as well as we could.”
