Little League Field Serves as Memorial

A baseball diamond will be dedicated today in memory of Stephan Corson, a West Valley National Little League player who died in a schoolyard fight late last year.

There will be a short ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at Franklin Fields, at the corner of Oxnard Street and Louise Avenue, league officials said.

Mary Corson, Stephan’s mother, will throw the first pitch of the season. Stephan, 13, died Nov. 19 during a fistfight with a student at Juniper Intermediate School in Palmdale, where the Corsons had recently moved. Stephan played in the West Valley league for five years and last season hit a home run on Diamond 6, the field that will be named for him.
