Events at All Saints Episcopal

All Saints Episcopal Church of Oxnard will have a week of activities beginning with a “Bread of Life” dinner in the parish hall at 5:30 p.m. today.

On Sunday, there will be worship services at 8 and 11 a.m. A Spanish worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Classes Sunday will include a 9:30 a.m. adult lectionary Bible study led by the Rev. Warren V. Porter and a 10:30 a.m. class for children led by Sunday School Supt. Cindy Morales.

A Shrove Tuesday pancake supper will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall. A Christian spirituality meeting will also be held in the parish hall at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

There will be Ash Wednesday services in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at noon and 7 p.m. Wednesday. At 6 p.m. Wednesday, an English Ash Wednesday service will be held in the sanctuary, and a Spanish service will be held in the chapel.

On Thursday, a Bible study class will be held at 1:30 p.m. and choir rehearsal will be in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Reading Rooms Honor Pioneer

During March, which is National Women’s History Month, Christian Science reading rooms in Oxnard, Ojai, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley will highlight the achievements of Mary Baker Eddy, a pioneer in recognition of women’s rights and founder of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

Interfaith Parents Discussion

A round-table discussion for interfaith parents will be offered from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday by the Congregation B’nai Emet in Simi Valley. The discussion will meet for four consecutive Sundays beginning this week.

Congregation B’nai Emet will also have a special Sabbath program for families with young children at 7 p.m. Friday. At Tot Shabbat, the children will sing traditional prayers, see the Torah scroll, hear a story and be given dessert. There is no charge.

Communion Service at St. Paul’s

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Oxnard will hear from the Rev. Alan P. Gorsline on “Corrected Vision” during the service at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. Communion will be offered. There will be no Sunday School so children can participate in communion.

Sonrise Christian Opens Nightclub

Sonrise Christian Fellowship of Camarillo will celebrate the grand opening of Soul House at Dimensions Night Club at 6 p.m. Sundays beginning this week. The club will offer entertainment by the Soul Survivors, accompanied by former Elton John guitarist Caleb Quaye.

Discussion on ‘Catching the Spirit’

The Rev. Irma Oestmann will speak on “Catching the Spirit” when Unity Center Church of Thousand Oaks holds services at 10 a.m. Sunday.

United Methodist Youth Services

United Methodist Church in Simi Valley will hold children’s services at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday.

The children will lead the worship, using the theme “Hands on Faith,” and the children’s choir will sing at both services.

Child care is provided for infants and preschoolers. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9 a.m., and a Spanish service is at 1:30 p.m.

The Discovery Club for pre-kindergarten through grade six and youth fellowship for junior and senior high school students meet at 6 p.m.

Applying the Bible Everyday

St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Newbury Park will offer an evening of discussion and instruction in interpreting the Bible for everyday use from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Pastor Lynne Austin will lead the discussion. Adults and youth are invited, and child care will be provided.

Bring a dessert to share. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the event.

‘Dealing With Life’s Storms’

Pastor James K. Bain Jr. will deliver the sermon “Dealing With Life’s Storms” at First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard’s worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday.

There will be Sunday School for youths during the worship service. Adult Sunday School will be at 9 a.m.

In preparation for Lent, the church will have a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $3.50 per person.

Pupils to Beautify School Grounds

Children at the Talmud Torah Family School of Oxnard will beautify the grounds of two schools Tuesday.

The students will plant flowers at the Carl Dwire Jr. School garden, followed by a tree planting at the new parish center and school at the Buenaventura Mission.

The students are following the biblical mandate of repairing the world. They collect money each week to improve their community and will be spending their own donations to buy the flowers and the fruit tree.

The Talmud Torah Family School meets under the auspices of Congregation Am HaYam, affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

Aspects of Jesus’ Life to Be Studied

“The Passion and Resurrection Narratives of Jesus” will be the Bible study program for men and women at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church during classes from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays or 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays in the Lenten season.

The classes will begin in the church hall this week and continue until May.

Ash Wednesday Services

St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church of Thousand Oaks will join Roman Catholics around the world with Ash Wednesday Masses to mark the first day of Lent.

The first day of the 40 days of Lent is called Ash Wednesday because of the signing of the cross in ashes on the foreheads of the faithful wishing to receive the ancient symbol of penance. During Lent, Catholics pray, fast, give alms and strive for a deeper spiritual relationship with God.

Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 6:30 and 8:15 a.m. and 6 p.m. There will be a Spanish Mass at 7:30 p.m.

Philadelphia Rabbi to Speak

Rabbi Ira F. Stone of Philadelphia will speak at Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks at services at 8:15 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. March 11.

Rabbi Shimon Paskow, spiritual leader of the congregation, will conduct the meetings. Cantor Jeff Cohen will chant the traditional liturgy.

Loving Relationship Seminar

Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village will host speaker and author John Trent for a weekend Loving Relationship seminar.

Trent, president of Encouraging Words ministry, will share relationship-building tools to bring people closer to each other.

The seminar begins at 7 p.m. Friday and continues from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on March 11.
