The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District has the money to pay for immediate upgrades to local campuses, but an expected drop in facilities funding could cause problems in the future. Officials said they may someday have to dip into the district’s operating budget to pay for new classrooms, if revenue from developer fees and other specialized sources continue to decrease.

“There really isn’t much income for facilities,” said Stella Doiron, the district’s director of facilities and planning.

This fiscal year, developer fees are expected to amount to $1.3 million, down from the $2.5 million received in 1998-99. For the next fiscal year beginning July 1, district officials expect no more than $1 million in developer’s fee revenue.
