A pair of summertime city recreation programs have become a bit more expensive after the City Council approved fee increases.
Last week, the council approved increases in the junior lifeguard and instructional surfing programs in the hope that the self-supporting programs will not require city funds.
The cost of the junior lifeguard program, which is only available to city residents, increased from $95 to $105. Fees for the surfing program jumped from $60 to $65 for nonresidents and $55 to $60 for residents.
