Barak and Arafat Discuss U.S. Plan

RAMALLAH, West Bank —
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat met late Tuesday to consider a U.S. plan to restart their peace process.
The plan involves a new timetable for achieving a permanent peace by September, a Palestinian negotiator said. It was not clear after the meeting whether Arafat or Barak had accepted the proposal.
Talks stalled last month after Palestinians rejected Israel’s plans for its latest army pullback in the West Bank.
