UCLA, spurred by Seilala Sua, won its first women’s NCAA indoor track and field title Saturday night.

Sua won the shotput and was second in the 20-pound weight throw as the Bruins finished with 51 points, 10 ahead of South Carolina.

The Bruins’ last NCAA track title was in 1983 at the outdoor meet. Their previous best finish indoors was second in 1995.

Overall, it is UCLA’s 80th NCAA title.

Arkansas won its 16th men’s title in 17 years, but its first at home. Led by Melvin Lister, winner of the triple jump and long jump, Arkansas compiled 69 1/2 points in 16 events over two days, beating runner-up Stanford by 17 1/2 points.

The UCLA women led after the first day, with the help of victories by Tracy O’Hara in the pole vault and Keyon Soley in the long jump, then clinched the title with a 1-3-6 finish in the shotput Saturday.

Sua, the outdoor champion in the shotput and discus, won the shot with a heave of 56-8. Christina Tolson was third and Chaniqua Ross placed sixth.
