Two local middle schools scored well in the recent countywide Mathcounts competition.
Isaac L. Sowers Middle School placed first and Ethel Dwyer Middle School placed second in the mathematics challenge.
Student teams had the highest scores among the 19 participating schools in the regional competition at UC Irvine last month. The two teams will now progress to the Saturday state contest.
Students with the top four scores and the top coach there will represent the state at the national finals.
