PLACENTIA

Representatives of the city and police officers union are expected to sign a new two-year labor contract Tuesday, putting an end to almost five months of negotiations.

The contract, offering a 7% salary increase and attractive retirement benefits, was agreed upon by the Placentia Police Officers Assn. and city officials last week. It is expected to be written up and signed by both parties before being passed along to the City Council to be ratified March 21.

Both parties were prepared to enter into an agreement last month, but the process was delayed by changes made to the officers’ benefits plan, which would pay officers 60% of their salary when they retire. The same terms drafted in that contract had to be approved by members of the Placentia Police Managers Assn. before they could be included in the final contract. Both the officers union and managers union must be given the same contract.
