The city opened up the bidding process today for one of two segments of the Imperial Highway widening project. City Engineer Roy Stephenson said the contract to widen the highway from Yorba Linda Boulevard to 700 feet north of Esperanza Road will be awarded in April and construction should begin the following month. The 18-month project is expected to cost about $9 million.

Construction on a second segment of the highway will begin in July between Yorba Linda Boulevard and Rose Avenue. That $8-million portion will be completed in nine months, said Stephenson.

Both projects will be paid for with Measure M funds distributed by the Orange County Transportation Authority.
