DGA Winners Lost Out

Share

Thanks for your coverage of Steven Spielberg’s apropos comments at the Directors Guild of America’s annual awards banquet (“DGA Award Nudges Mendes Closer to Oscar,” by Robert W. Welkos, March 13). Oddly, the article ended with a brief list of “other DGA Award winners” and the directors’ names.

Having been an assistant director for many years--and a previous nominee--I’m puzzled why you determined that the winning unit production managers, assistant and associate directors, stage managers and production associates weren’t even worth a mention.

As the hometown paper of the DGA, with more than 100 pages to use as your daily canvas, in that same edition you had no problem reporting more than anyone might ever need--nor should probably be allowed--to know about our top 64 college basketball teams; the winner and every loser in each of those 10 crucial races at Santa Anita; and the amount of each kind of fish caught by sports fishers off San Pedro.
