Hudgins Pitches Five-Inning No-Hitter for Mission Viejo

John Hudgins pitched a five-inning no-hitter as host Mission Viejo beat Dana Hills, 11-0, in a South Coast League baseball game called because of the mercy rule.

Hudgins, who also has a one-hitter this season, struck out seven, walked one and hit a batter for Mission Viejo (5-1, 1-0 in league).

Teammate Billy Hart had two doubles and an RBI, and Shawn Stacy had a double and three RBIs for the Diablos.

Dana Hills is 2-3-1, 0-1.

In other South Coast League games:

Capistrano Valley 7, San Clemente 0--Kellan McConnell pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also hit a home run for visiting Capistrano Valley (4-3, 1-0). Travis Becktel had a home run and stole two bases for the Cougars.

Trabuco Hills 8, El Toro 3--Pitcher Ryan Brizendine (2-0) had two hits and two RBIs for the visiting Mustangs (5-3, 1-0). Eric Walsh (2-2) took the loss and homered for El Toro (3-4-1, 0-1).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 10, Fullerton 9 (8)--Rudy Padilla scored on an error in the top of the eighth to give visiting Buena Park the victory.

Pitcher Jeremy Tolmasoff (3-0) hit a three-run home run in the third and a bases-empty homer in the seventh, and had four RBIs for Buena Park. Anthony Cabral had five hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for Buena Park (6-3, 1-0).

La Habra 3, Sonora 1--Al Estrada’s single tied the score and the Highlanders (6-1, 1-0) scored two more runs on a fielder’s choice and an error in the third inning. Kyle Ballard (4-1) struck out nine in seven innings to improve to 20-2 in his career.

Brett Smith (2-2) took the loss for Sonora (5-3, 0-1).

Sunny Hills 4, Troy 1--Nathan Hochgesang struck out five and didn’t give up an earned run in the complete-game victory for host Sunny Hills (4-4, 1-0).

Hochgesang and Jeff Jones each had two hits and an RBI for the Lancers.

In the Century League:

No. 1 Villa Park 5, Foothill 3--Brandon Averill pitched four innings for the victory, striking out five for host Villa Park (6-0, 1-0), which scored in each of the first four innings to take a 5-0 lead.

Scott Zine had two hits and an RBI for the Spartans.

Matt Meadows had two hits and three RBIs for Foothill (2-5, 0-1).

Canyon 5, Santa Ana Valley 4--Andy Clay’s home run in the top of the sixth was the margin of victory for visiting Canyon (4-4, 1-1).

El Modena 5, Orange 2--Kirt Angier had three hits and an RBI for El Modena (4-4, 1-0), which scored five runs in the sixth.

In the Empire League:

No. 9 Loara 5, Kennedy 5 (9, darkness)--Sophomore John Cross hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score for host Kennedy.

Cypress 11, Century 9--Scott Moore hit a home run in the first inning and had a two-run double in the seventh that put Cypress (6-2, 1-0) ahead, 11-9.

Host Century is 2-5, 0-1.

El Dorado 13, Katella 2 (5, mercy)--Brian Verhellen had two hits and two RBIs for the visiting Golden Hawks (4-2, 1-0).

Justin Angevine (2-1) got the victory and Jon Lorenzen (1-1) took the loss for Katella (3-5, 0-1).

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 13, Saddleback 2 (5, mercy)--B.J. Dubarry had two home runs and six RBIs for host Ocean View (3-3-2, 1-0).

Tustin 8, Westminster 4--Chris Hanson and Dan Hippert hit two-run home runs for host Tustin (4-3, 1-0).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 12, Whittier Christian 7--Terry Mermer had three hits and five RBIs for Calvary Chapel (3-2, 1-0). Peter Eberhardt homered for Whittier Christian (0-1 in league).

In the Orange League:

Western 10, Brea Olinda 3--Visiting Western (3-3, 1-0) scored seven runs in the sixth to take an 8-3 lead. The Pioneers added two more runs in the seventh. Brea is 3-3, 0-1.

Valencia 17, Anaheim 1 (5, mercy)--Hector Ambriz (3-0) struck out six and gave up two singles in four innings and had three hits, four RBIs and four runs for Valencia (5-2, 1-0). Sal Rios (0-2) took the loss for Anaheim (2-5, 0-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 4, Estancia 2--Josh Little had two hits, an RBI, stole a base and scored a run for host Costa Mesa (3-2-1, 1-0).

In the Sea View League:

Irvine 9, Aliso Niguel 8--Terry Parker singled home Chris Lewis from third with one out in the bottom of the seventh to win it for host Irvine (5-2, 2-0).

Aliso Niguel had tied it with four runs in the top of the seventh.

Chris Sinner had two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases and Chad Hazlett pitched two innings to pick up his fifth consecutive victory for the Vaqueros.

Laguna Hills 15, Newport Harbor 6--Designated hitter Joe Viglione hit a grand slam and shortstop Justin Hallenbeck homered twice for the host Hawks (2-4, 1-0).

In nonleague baseball:

Fairmont Prep 11, Liberty Christian 10--Donnie Ngo had two hits, including a game-winning RBI single in the sixth for host Fairmont Prep (3-1).

Los Amigos 4, Palos Verdes Peninsula 3--Jesus Rodarte came on to pitch in the second with two outs and the bases loaded and got a strikeout to get out of trouble. He then pitched the next four innings to get the victory for Los Amigos (4-3).

West Torrance 7, No. 4 University 5--Jordan Cumsky and Jay Nichols each had two hits for host University (6-3).
