What’s Studio City Got to Do With It?
Singer Tina Turner has sold a Studio City home for $725,000, and the new owners have listed the house for rent at $5,500 a month.
Turner, who lives in Zurich, Switzerland, or in her hilltop retreat in the French Riviera, had owned the Studio City home, in the Fryman Estates area, since 1985.
Divorced from R&B; bandleader-guitarist Ike Turner in 1978, the singer-actress lived in the house before moving to Europe 12 years ago, and her mother, Zelma Bullock, lived in the home until she died in October.
Built in 1956, the post-and-beam-style house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms in nearly 2,500 square feet. The house also has a pool.
The Grammy-winning singer, 60, performed during the Super Bowl pregame show in Atlanta on Jan. 30. Since then she has been promoting “Twenty Four Seven” (Virgin/Parlophone), her first new album in several years.
Starting Thursday in Minneapolis, Turner will begin a 50-city North American tour, which she has said will be her last.
Lou Woolf at Coldwell Banker, Sherman Oaks, has the listing on the rental, and he represented both sides in the sale.

Baseball Hall-of-Famer Brooks Robinson, who played for the Baltimore Orioles for 23 years, has listed his Dana Point summer home at just under $1.7 million.
Robinson, 62, won 16 straight Gold Gloves from 1960 to 1975 as the best third baseman in the American League.
After retiring from playing baseball in 1977, he began his second career as a manager of Crown Central Petroleum Corp. He also was a TV sports commentator for Baltimore Oriole games in Baltimore from 1978 to 1990.
He has owned the home, in the Monarch Beach area, almost since it was built 10 years ago, but he and his family have been busy elsewhere, and they haven’t been using the house much lately.
It has five bedrooms in 5,600 square feet. Situated in a gated community, the house also has sweeping ocean views, a private pool and a spa.

Brett Ratner, who directed the Jackie Chan-Chris Tucker hit “Rush Hour” and Madonna’s “Beautiful Stranger” video, has purchased the Beverly Hills home of the late Allan Carr, who produced the movie musical “Grease” and the Tony-winning Broadway musical “La Cage aux Folles.”
Ratner, 30, bought the home, which Carr owned from 1972 until he died at 62 in June, for just under $4 million. Escrow closed Feb. 18.
One of Hollywood’s hot young directors, Ratner is directing the comedy feature “Family Man” starring Nicolas Cage. It’s due out in December.
The house also was the home, at various times, of Ingrid Bergman, Kim Novak and James Caan, sources said.
Built in 1927 as a guest house and entertainment center for an English manor-style home that was later razed, the home, more than 5,000 square feet on lush grounds, has five bedrooms plus a projection room, breakfast room, cantina, game room, pool and cabana. It also has a two-bedroom guest house.
Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency, Beverly Hills, represented Ratner in his purchase.

Businessman Essam Khashoggi, founder and chairman of EarthShell Corp., has put his former home on 38 acres at Hope Ranch in Santa Barbara on the market at $38 million.
The 38-acre property was part of a 52-acre site that Khashoggi subdivided. He built a new home for himself and his family on the other 14 acres.
His former home on the 38-acre parcel includes an 18,000-square-foot compound with a 10-bedroom main house designed by George Washington Smith. Built in 1926, it was refurbished in 1982.
The 38-acre site also has a five-bedroom guest-office-staff quarters, tennis court, pool, pool pavilion, 12-stall stable with office and two apartments, softball field, lake, and 1,250 feet of ocean frontage.
EarthShell makes food packaging from biodegradable materials. The company, which moved its headquarters from Santa Barbara to Baltimore, has been working with McDonald’s to develop new fast-food packaging materials. Khashoggi is the younger brother of Adnan Khashoggi, a former Saudi arms dealer.

Peter Lehner, a director and a producer as well as an Internet entrepreneur, has purchased a Beverly Hills-area home for $965,000 from a banking family heir who had purchased the house a year ago but never moved into it.
The seller, who has homes in Arizona and Utah, just bought a San Francisco townhouse for $2 million.
Lehner is founder of White Noise Productions, an Internet professional services company that was recently sold to Nuforia, a New York-based Internet services company with such clients as Texaco Inc. and EnergyPortal.com.
The house that Lehner bought was described as “mid-century modern” with three bedrooms in 2,500 square feet. It has city-to-ocean views.
