Just Try Getting Produce in the Inner Cities

Share

In the article “Meeting Vegetarian Kids’ Nutritional Needs” (March 6), I am agitated at the comment, “providing that adequate diet is much easier today, thanks to the increasing number of health food stores . . .” Since when did health food stores or supermarkets do business in the inner cities? To the contrary, as supermarkets move out, corner liquor “produce” stores move in, and the only produce they sell are bruised bananas and browning lettuce. Can providing a healthy diet be made any easier for families in low-income neighborhoods, vegetarian issues aside?
