Pigs Cloned

So they did it. They have cloned five pigs that could be the beginning of pig to human organ transplants (March 15). Bioscience experts are saying that these transplants could also mean the serious risk of viruses (similar in origin to AIDS) crossing the species barrier and then threatening not only the life of the organ recipient but also the general public.

Although my compassion is great for those who await organ donors, my voice must be heard; we are jeopardizing the future of this world if we continue in such an anti-God-like manner. When will it end? Will we stop at nothing to prolong life, even if it means putting the world at risk? If I were in need of a transplant, I would rather lose my own life than let someone play Dr. Frankenstein on me and put others at risk of contracting a deadly virus.

After reading your article I just sat back with my head hung in silence and let out a deep sigh. There is simply no limit to human selfishness. It seems there is nothing in nature, no life form (not even their own) that humans will not exploit, manipulate and eventually destroy for their own convenience. I speak as if I’m not human. Well, I really don’t feel like being part of what I am witnessing here.

OK, we butcher animals for food. It’s a bit on the primitive side, but there’s still much of the hunter-gatherer in us. But to manufacture and butcher animals for spare parts on our own bodies. I’m not thinking in terms of morals or ethics, but in terms of human desperation. In desperation to increase the span of a physical existence, we devalue life down to a marketable commodity. I have a feeling this will be one of those painful and costly lessons that will be learned the hard way.

This little piggy went to market. This little piggy stayed home. This little piggy gave organs. This little piggy gave none. This little piggy cried, “Flee, flee, flee,” all the way home.
