Coach Montgomery Fired by Hart

David Montgomery, boys’ basketball coach at Hart High for the last three years, has been fired by Principal Gary Fuller because of what Montgomery called “philosophical differences.”

Montgomery said Tuesday there was a disagreement over his players participating in other sports, particularly football, Hart’s most successful sport.

“I wanted my basketball players to be dedicated to basketball,” Montgomery said. “I was very adamant in saying ‘football participation would hurt your basketball.’ If I’m guilty of trying to promote basketball, I’m guilty as charged.”

Fuller was unavailable for comment.
