The City Council on Tuesday approved temporary taxicab permits for peak convention center periods. A committee and consultant determined that four to five times a year, when the center has especially large conventions, the city does not have enough taxicabs. A Taxi Cab and Yellow Cab of North Orange County, currently the only companies with permits, will receive the additional permits.

The council also approved a $77,520 contract with Bruce Schaller of Schaller Consulting. The new contract authorizes Schaller to begin organizing a taxicab franchise in the city. Anaheim code enforcement manager John Poole said the city hopes to have the franchise system, which would set standards for service, in place by January when the Anaheim Convention Center and Disney’s California Adventure are expected to be completed.
