The Committee to Recall Mayor John M. Gullixson has sent out more than 15,400 direct mailers to Yorba Linda voters in a final effort to collect the 6,550 signatures it needs to put the recall to a vote.

According to the committee’s Web site, the group has collected 2,780 so far. It needs 3,770 more before the April 4 deadline.

Petitions have been mailed to the homes of all residents who voted in the last City Council election, recall proponent David Baker said.

“This is our last shot to see if this effort goes through,” he said. “After this, if it fails it fails.”

Gullixson said the recall effort is nothing but “a hate campaign” launched by Councilman Henry W. Wedaa, who has helped fund the campaign.
