Public Invited to Pierce Open House
The public will be able to see the progress made on Pierce College’s master plan at an open house this week.
The master plan, which will examine the future of academics, land use and facilities at the college, is currently being written with input from those on campus and the community at large. Officials hope to complete the master plan by June so that it can go before the Los Angeles Community College District board this summer.
This will be the college’s first master plan to give specific direction on many critical issues, said college spokesman Mike Cornner.
“We want to make our master plan a living document to guide us,” Cornner said.
The plan will examine possible uses for the college’s 240-acre farm at DeSoto Avenue and Victory Boulevard. In August, the board rejected proposals for a golf course on the property.
The open house will feature several tables emphasizing different parts of the plan with materials available for the public to examine.
An open house for students, faculty and staff is planned from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, with a meeting for the community set for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Campus Center, 6201 Winnetka Ave.
