An anti-crime group is offering a reward for information about a daylight attack on a city official from Artesia.

Maria Dadian, 47, assistant city manager, was beaten into unconsciousness during a robbery on a downtown street. She suffered severe facial and head injuries.

The attacker is described as an African American male, 6 feet 2 to 6 feet 5 and weighing between 245 and 285 pounds. He was wearing knee-length shorts and a white athletic team jersey, witnesses said.

Dadian was in San Diego last week to attend a conference on redevelopment issues when the attack occurred. Her husband, John, is a political consultant and former top aide to Mayor Susan Golding.

Because the attack occurred near the federal courthouse, the case is being handled by the Federal Protective Service. San Diego County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000.

The number to call is (619) 234-8477.
