Point Guard Hudson Is Released

Share

Point guard Troy Hudson, a starter in 38 games, was released Monday by the Clippers, which hit teammate and friend Tyrone Nesby hard.

“That hurt me,” Nesby said. “It’s like losing a brother and I don’t think it’s right. Troy plays hard every day. Last year, everybody loved him and this year you waive him? To me it doesn’t make any sense.”

Because the Clippers have struggled with injuries, Hudson was the odd man out, according to interim Coach Jim Todd. But Nesby said the Clippers had other options and that Todd held a grudge against Hudson because of a dispute between them a month ago.

“It was nothing personal,” Todd said. “Any time someone gets waived, you’re going to get caught off guard. We had to make a decision because we needed another big body and there’s no room on the roster.”

With only three weeks left in the regular season and playoff rosters already set, it is unlikely that Hudson will catch on with another team, said his agent, Bill Neff.

To fill Hudson’s spot, the Clippers signed Etdrick Bohannon to a 10-day contract. With Lamar Odom, Maurice Taylor, Keith Closs, Eric Piatkowski and Nesby all out because of injuries, Bohannon, a 6-foot-9 power forward who has played most of the season in the Continental Basketball Assn., addresses a size problem.

The Clippers are Bohannon’s fourth NBA team in three years.
