Bloomberg News

Macrovision Corp., whose software prevents pirating of videotapes and CD-ROMs, agreed to buy Globetrotter Software Inc. of San Jose for $883 million in stock. The company said it will exchange 11.2 million shares for closely held Globetrotter, which had revenue of $15 million in 1999. The deal helps Macrovision broaden its product line to appeal more to business software vendors that lease their products online and sell downloadable software. Macrovision’s shares rose $2 to close at $78.88 on Nasdaq.
