Sony Pictures Entertainment today will announce a two-year strategic alliance with Girl Games Inc., a pioneer in development of software for teen girls. As part of the alliance, Sony will invest $3 million in Girl Games, which operates the PlanetGirl.com Web site. Girl Games, based in Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles, is in the process of raising venture funding.

“We look forward to working together to deliver the benefits of our entertainment content and technology to their important audience,” said Eva Miranda, senior vice president of corporate development and strategic planning for Sony Pictures.

Under terms of the agreement, Girl Games will integrate Sony promotions and entertainment content into its Web site. Sony also said it will work with Girl Games to help develop its brands.

The deal is the latest between Sony and an Internet company aimed at the youth market. In January, Sony announced a similar alliance with San Diego-based CollegeClub.com.
