Tide Ebbs for the Waves in Hawaii, 4-2

Jeremy Coronado hit his third home run of the season in the sixth inning to pull Pepperdine to within one run, but the Waves stranded 11 baserunners and lost to Lewis-Clark State, 4-2, in a Hawaii Easter tournament college baseball game Tuesday at Rainbow Stadium in Honolulu.

Pepperdine (18-12) tied the game, 1-1, when Austin Evans singled home Chris Spieth in the third inning.

But Greg Ramirez gave up three runs in five innings, including two in the third inning and a solo home run to Gabe Boruff in the seventh.

All-American catcher Dane Sardinha of Pepperdine, a native of Hawaii who came into the game with .345 batting average, struck out three times and was hitless in five at-bats.

Pierce 25, Ventura 12--The Brahmas pounded out 19 hits against nine pitchers and benefited from six errors in a Western State Conference interdivisional victory at Ventura.

Jack Cassel had three hits, scored two runs and drove in five for the Brahmas (11-10, 7-6).

Moorpark 10, Glendale 3--Blake Boyer had two hits and four RBIs, and Tony Murphy had three hits and two RBIs for the Raiders in a WSC interdivisional game at Moorpark.

Hancock 4, Valley 1--The Monarchs (8-13, 3-10) had a three-game winning streak end in a WSC interdivisional game at Hancock.

The Master’s 6, Chapman 1--Matt Herwaldt was four for four with three RBIs for the Mustangs at Chapman.

Mike Ploharz pitched a four-hitter for the Master’s (21-5).

SOFTBALL

Canyons 6, Glendale 4--Sandra Rodriguez hit a pinch, two-run home run with two out in the seventh to give the Cougars (23-4, 12-0) a WSC Southern Division victory at Canyons.

Valley 12, Citrus 3--Susie Bach had three hits and Carrie Miller had two hits and five RBIs for the Monarchs (8-17, 4-8) in a WSC Southern Division victory at Valley.
