Mabou Mines theater company will present the West Coast premiere of “Las Horas de Belen--A Book of Hours,” a collaboration between the New York-based troupe and artists Jesusa Rodriguez and Liliana Felipe of Mexico City. The play explores the lives of inmates in the Recogimiento de Belen, a 17th Century sanctuary for single women in Mexico City created by the Catholic Church.

Music

Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean performs Saturday at Cal State Northridge on his third American concert tour. His music was featured in the motion picture “The Last of the Mohicans.” MacLean has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and sold more than 3 million copies of his solo CDs worldwide.

Cowboy Way

Santa Clarita’s seventh annual Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival is slated for this weekend. This year’s event is a salute to the American cowgirl. Dale Evans will accept a lifetime achievement award. Actors Richard Farnsworth and Peter Brown and singer Don Edwards also will be honored. Performers include Jill Jones, Liz Masterson, Belinda Gail, Doris Daley and all-female bands Horse Crazy and High Hills.

History

“Sigmund Freud: Conflict and Culture” opens Tuesday at the Skirball Cultural Center. The exhibit focuses on the life and work of one of the 20th century’s most influential figures, using photos, letters, rare home movies, first editions and personal items. The show was organized by the Library of Congress and will run through July 25.
