Events Scheduled to Remember Holocaust

A public program Tuesday chronicling the persecution of different ethnic groups and a speech by a Holocaust survivor are among the events scheduled to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day.

One program, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center, will recall persecutions throughout history from African American enslavement to “ethnic cleansing” in Bosnia.

The free event will also feature an Armenian dance troupe, the Lancaster High School a cappella choir and the High Desert First Nations Coalition.

“This program is designed to appeal to all members of the community in the interest of building tolerance through education,” said event chairman Ira Simonds of Congregation Beth Knesse Bamidbar.

Also Tuesday, Si Frumkin will speak at 11 a.m. in Monarch Hall at Valley College, 5800 Fulton Ave., Valley Glen.

As a child during World War II, Frumkin was held in several German concentration camps and was freed from Dachau in 1945. His talk will focus on the Holocaust and how it is relevant today.
