Panel Urges Deeper Cuts in Project Area
Members of a citizens panel called Monday for further scaling back a proposed redevelopment area for the northeast San Fernando Valley by eliminating portions of Pacoima, Lake View Terrace and Sylmar.
Faced with the new proposal, the Project Area Committee voted Monday to delay action on a previous motion to cut the proposed 6,835-acre area in half.
Instead, the committee asked Los Angeles city officials to draw up new maps that more clearly show the alternatives for a redevelopment area.
Supporters of a reduced project area say it will allow better focus on the more-needy areas and make the proposal an easier sell to a skeptical public.
