Girl, 2, Dies After Falling Into Pool
A 2-year-old girl died Monday night at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital after falling into the family swimming pool earlier in the day, Santa Paula police reported.
About noon, Kelly McCarthy fell into the pool in the 700 block of West Santa Barbara Street, Police Chief Bob Gonzales said.
The child’s mother, a licensed day-care provider, was in the house attending to two other children when she realized her daughter was missing, Gonzales said.
She ran outside and found the child face-down at the bottom of the pool. A neighbor who heard the woman’s screams pulled the child from the pool and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the chief said.
Paramedics managed to restore a pulse and transported the child to the hospital, where she died.
