Gun Control and Shooting Rampages

Share

There are a couple of unspoken assumptions in the articles about the Million Mom March (“Gun Violence Moves Moms to Action,” April 3). The first is that outrages such as the shooting at the North Valley Jewish Community Center result from a lack of gun control laws and that more such laws will end them. One organizer says, “If we do nothing, it will happen again.” The truth is, even if they do something, it will happen again.

The second is that the description of a crime committed with a gun and the heart-wrenching reaction to that crime are arguments for new gun control laws. While true believers are thus convinced, the description of an event, without more, does not suggest a solution.
