Added Fee to Boost Park District Budget
The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District’s budget for next year is expected to increase more than $1.5 million, largely as a result of a ballot measure passed by voters in March.
The district board will formally vote on the $24.1-million budget at its May 18 meeting.
Because the state has been slashing park funding in recent years, city property owners were asked in a mail ballot to approve a $24-per-household fee to help offset $956,000 cut from the district’s budget, park district General Manager Al Church said. The measure passed.
About $445,000 will be used to build West Highlands Neighborhood Park at the south end of 1st Street.
The district also will buy new trucks and vans and spend $70,000 on a new lawn mower. The rest of the money will be used for park maintenance.
In the next 10 years, park district officials hope to build volleyball, tennis and roller hockey courts at Rancho Tapo Community Park, as well as a children’s pool.
At Rancho Madera Park, there are plans to build tennis courts and restrooms.
