HUNTINGTON BEACH
The Park Naming and Memorials Committee will meet Wednesday to consider ways to honor the late Col. Arthur Poindexter of Huntington Beach.
Poindexter, who died Jan. 5 of congestive heart failure at the age of 82, had a distinguished military career.
As a Marine in World War II, he and other Marines defended Wake Island in the Pacific Ocean before they surrendered to the Japanese on Christmas Day. Poindexter was sent to a prisoner-of-war camp in China until the war ended. He also served in Korea and retired in 1963, ending a 26-year military career.
The committee meets at 6:15 p.m. in the Caucus Room at City Hall, 2000 Main St.
