Affirmative Action Foe Ends Campaign

A petition drive to place an anti-affirmative action measure on the Florida ballot was called off in Tallahassee by the man who started similar campaigns in California and Washington. Ward Connerly said there is not enough time to gather the necessary 500,000 signatures by the August deadline. He promised to try again in 2002.
