Ventura County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday raided two houses in Santa Paula, where they seized 894 pounds of marijuana and arrested at least three people, authorities confirmed.

Additional searches were being conducted at other locations in the city late Wednesday and authorities anticipated more arrests, Capt. Rod Thompson said.

The marijuana, which had been bundled into several packages, was found about 9 a.m. inside a house in the 100 block of Ventura Street, authorities reported. Detectives valued the stash at more than $1 million.

Authorities did not release the location of the second house nor details about the people arrested.

Evidence seized at one of the homes prompted narcotics deputies to seek a search warrant late Wednesday to investigate a storage facility in the city, deputies said.

About two weeks ago, deputies searched a house on nearby West Santa Paula Street and arrested three people on suspicion of possessing several types of illegal drugs, including a quarter-pound of marijuana.

Detectives in that raid seized equipment believed to have been used for growing marijuana indoors.
