In what police said could be an act of retaliation for last week’s fatal stabbing of a Latino teenager, a carload of young men opened fire on seven Armenian-Americans Thursday night, wounding one.

The 18-year-old victim was shot once in the leg and was taken to an area hospital, said Sgt. Rick Young of the Glendale Police Department. He said the man was in good condition with a minor wound.

The attack occurred at 9:33 p.m. as a group of young men stood on the corner of Kenilworth Avenue and Glenoaks Boulevard, talking and eating doughnuts, Young said.

A car carrying three Latino men with shaved heads pulled up and one passenger, seated in the rear, shouted out the window, Young said. Witnesses told police that a passenger in the front fired five to six shots at the group.

The attack came six days after Raul Aguirre, a 17-year-old Hoover High School student, was clubbed with a tire iron and stabbed in the heart outside the school.

Police said he tried to intervene in a fight fueled by ethnic tensions between Armenian Americans and Latinos.

Police were searching for three possible suspects ages 18-20 in a blue, green or teal Honda Accord on Thursday night.
