Week of Activities at All Saints

* All Saints Episcopal Church of Oxnard will have a week of activities beginning with a “Bread of Life” dinner in the parish hall at 5:30 p.m. today.

On Sunday, there will be worship services at 8 and 11 a.m. A Spanish worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m. African ministries gifts will be available in the parish hall at 12:15 p.m.

Christian education classes Sunday will include a 9:30 a.m. adult lectionary Bible study led by the Rev. Warren V. Porter and 10:30 a.m. Christian education for children.

A Christian spirituality meeting will be held in the parish hall at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

There will be a Holy Eucharist and healing service in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A Bible study class will be held at 1:30 p.m., and choir rehearsal will be in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Lecture Examines Ancient Church

* A lecture series on the history, holy Scripture and traditions of the ancient Christian church will be given by the Rev. David Bower of St. Herman Orthodox Church in Oxnard at 3 p.m. today and May 20. Included will be a video presentation on Byzantium and the church in Russia and Greece.

Refreshments will be served and child care provided.

School to Hold Fashion Show

* The public is invited to St. Paschal Baylon School’s seventh annual fashion show luncheon and silent auction at 10:30 a.m. today in the church’s St. Thomas Aquinas Hall in Thousand Oaks.

Presale tickets are $35, $40 at the door.

Church members will model fashions from Robinsons-May. The silent auction includes a Sony Playstation and gift certificates for local restaurants, hotels, art classes and a fitness club membership.

Indian Classical Dance Featured

* In connection with the anniversary of the Hindu Temple at Malibu and the sanctification of the new millennium, there will be a performance of Indian classical dance by Ojai resident Sandhya Jade Kedaran and Meena Raman. Both are disciples of Guru Padmashri Adyar K. Lakshman, one of India’s respected dance masters and choreographers. Accompanying the dancers will be an ensemble of musicians from Madras, India.

The performance will be held immediately after the temple rituals about 3 p.m. Sunday. The performance is free and open to the public.

Presbyterian Church Plans Services

* First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard will hold a worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. Pastor James K. Bain Jr. will deliver the sermon “Family Under Siege,” based on John 10:11-16.

Church school for adults will be at 9 a.m. and for youth and children during the worship service.

Church to Celebrate Mother’s Day

* St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Newbury Park will have worship services at 8:30 and 10 a.m. Sunday, with special music at 8:30 by Carla Stoffel and 10 by the Chancel Choir directed by Steve Hobson. The Rev. Lynne Austin will deliver the message “The Good Shepherd,” focusing on John 10:11-18. Mother’s Day will be celebrated with sanctuary decorations. Gold crosses will be sold to help pastors in need and scholarship funding.

Methodist Church Holds Services

* United Methodist Church in Simi Valley will hold services at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Brandon Cho will bring the message. Communion will be celebrated at the 8 a.m. service.

Child care is provided for infants and preschoolers. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9 a.m., and a Spanish service is at 1:30 p.m.

The Discovery Club for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade and youth fellowship for junior and senior high school students meet at 6 p.m.

Unity Church to Honor Mothers

* Unity Center Church will honor mothers during a regular service at Old Meadows Park Community Church in Thousand Oaks at 10 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Irma Oestmann will speak on “Walking Together.” Pianist Richard Jones and soloist Stacy Parnum will perform special music. Children are invited to attend the children’s church in the upper room, and child care is provided.

Course to Discuss Anger Control

* A four-part course titled “Living La Vida Tranquila” will take place at the Conejo Jewish Academy in Agoura Hills starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday with classes on finding joy and controlling anger.

Family Shabbat Service in Oxnard

* Congregation Am HaYam in Oxnard will conduct a family Shabbat service at 7 p.m. Friday. This service is geared toward families with children, but adults are welcome. A regular Saturday morning service will be held at 10 a.m. Services are conducted by Rabbi Gerald Hanig.
