Re “Neighborhood Badly Shaken by Recent Shootings,” May 2.
I am writing with regard to the shootings in the Conejo Creek condominium complex recently. I think that our elected officials of Thousand Oaks have contributed to this event by allowing overcrowding in Conejo Creek. It has been an unhealthy situation for years, and they chose to ignore it.
Conejo Creek units are 900 square feet with two small bedrooms. Many units have two families living in them. It is no wonder that there have been problems in Conejo Creek all these years.
It is time our City Council assumed its responsibilities and enforced the rental law it so reluctantly passed when the community realized how serious the housing problem was. Conejo Creek must be cleaned up for the sake of the residents.
Our local law enforcement officers have been given the task of making it safe for the residents of Conejo Creek, and they have done a remarkable job, considering the overcrowding there. I commend them for a job well done!
If only our elected officials would quit ignoring the dangers that exist for the residents and our police. The sounds of guns firing in the area is not uncommon.
