In his Weekend Escape article “Viva Lost Vegas” (April 23), Barry Zwick stated: “Liberace was a Las Vegas headliner for three decades beginning in 1955.”

Actually, the glitzy pianist’s Vegas reign goes back further than that. Marilyn and I spent a memorable honeymoon in Las Vegas after our Jan. 8, 1949, wedding. An untypical winter storm downed telephone lines, canceled flights and froze streets and highways.

Conditions were so bad that we had no opportunity to take in a dinner show where the featured performer was a top name. So we had to settle for the Last Frontier Hotel and a name we had never heard of: Liberace, who, we discovered, packed ‘em in, even on a night like that.
