City planners will decide this month whether to extend legal protection to the ridgelines surrounding Olinda Village. The Planning Commission is to vote May 23 on a policy that would identify prominent ridgelines in the Carbon Canyon area and give them the same protection from development now granted to the ridges in the hills north of Brea. In 1994, the City Council voted to protect that area just north of the city limits.
