Tonight could mark the end of months of hard work for a group of teenagers, as their proposed Youth Commission goes before the City Council.

The group, led by 18-year-olds Ryan Zaffuto and Tania Falero, has been meeting since February to come up with a plan to establish a teen advisory board for the city.

Commission members would be called upon for input on issues and votes related to youth, City Manager Tim Casey said.

If council members approve the proposal, the city will try to distribute applications by the end of the school year, and interviews with interested students would be done in June or July, Casey said.

The city would try to draw a cross-section of students from both Dana Hills and Aliso Niguel high schools, as well as private school students, Casey said. Members of the commission would serve one-year terms beginning in September.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 27841 La Paz Road.
